Napped Flint & Oak

Details

This garden sits next to part of the South Downs Way. The house was completely rebuilt in traditional Sussex style - I first visited when the diggers were carving out the chalk bedrock around the house, so “carve further!” were my first instructions. The gentle curve was retained by a napped flint wall to match the house. The oak beams of the pergola and car port match the interior oak beams of the house, the clay pavers go with the hung tiles, the limestone - sublime with the swimming pool… This is a glorious spot and the clients accepted only the best materials. I think myself lucky to have had the opportunity to design this garden.
