This is a small garden at the back of a pretty little Victorian terrace. The idea behind this design is the impression of something that had been a part of the house already – the pergola is like the skeleton of the old outhouse, and the colour of the Indian Sandstone has been chosen to look like old flagstones. The planting is cottagy and informal, like it’s self seeded itself in the gaps.
The visuals created at the time of design allowed the client to visualise what was to come.
Below are the pictures before. The wooden chalet has been removed to free up space in the sunniest part of the garden. Climbing plants over the new pergola will eventually provide dappled shade.
